Rarely has the nation come together as it has in the past four days ever since the news broke of a Siachen Miracle! A soldier had survived being buried under a 25 ft wall of snow (almost as tall as a 2-floor building)! It was the unexpected, on a day when India had almost lost hope of any survivors out of the 10 Soldier party who’d been trapped under an avalanche. Lance Naik Hanumanthappa was a glimmer of a hope when all else seemed bleak, so much so that even fake videos of his rescue went viral. But there was something else much more powerful happening in India – not the politicians or the stars – but the real India. Prayers were being offered for Lance Naik, somewhere else ex-servicemen and a housewife offered to donate organs to the Lance Naik as he battled for his life in ICU at army’s R&R hospital. While doctors kept warning the country not to get its hopes up, it did anyway. A collective prayer went up to the heavens – hoping against hope that this one man have beaten the conditions at the Highest Battlefield In The World – the unforgiving Siachen.Earlier today as Lance Naik passed away, a collective gasp left lips across, eyes were welled up, and there was dejection and there would barely be any in India who’d be untouched by the emotion. For once there was no jingoism, no politics, no regionalism, no casteism, just a minute’s silence for one man who brought the nation together, even if for just four days.
