Black Rice or Purple Rice or Magic Rice or Forbidden Rice. Black Rice is actually dark purple in colour.
This rice is mainly used in Manipur and China. It is mainly used as a dressing or decoration in many other countries.
Black rice is high in nutritional value and is a source of iron, vitamin E, and antioxidants (more than in blueberries). In China, black rice is claimed to be good for the kidney, stomach and liver.
The words Amubi and Angouba stand for black and white, respectively, in Manipuri. Hence, Chakhao amubi and Chakhao angouba were named after the black and white colour aromatic rice.
